Karygiannis calls for Firearms Repositories

OTTAWA – The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, will table a Motion in the House of Commons calling for the establishment of Firearms Repositories in urban centres.

“Recently, we have witnessed several incidents where firearms have been used to kill and maim the innocent.  We need to do more to make sure that Canadians are safe, especially our children.”  said Mr. Karygiannis.  “We need to make firearms less accessible.”

The Motion to be tabled in the House of Commons calls for the establishment of Firearms Repositories in urban centres of more than 40,000 people.  The Repositories will be secure installations where all firearms will be kept.  Licenced firearms owners will have ready access to their weapons from the Repository.

“There is no need to store a firearm in your home if you live in an urban centre.  ” Mr. Karygiannis further stated.  “Those who live in rural areas need their firearms to protect their crops and livestock.  This Motion will not stop all tragedies but if it prevents even one, it will have been effective.”

Mr. Karygiannis’ Motion is listed on the House of Commons Order Paper and will be debated in the future.
