Law Society of Upper Canada one of the nation's top 100 employers for third consecutive year TORONTO,
Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Maclean's
magazine has named the Law Society of Upper Canada one of the 100 top
places to work in Canada as part of an annual competition to identify
employers with exemplary workplace environments. "We
are honoured to be included among Canada's best practice organizations,"
says Malcolm Heins, the Law Society's Chief Executive Officer. "The
Law Society's commitment to employee development and training, dedication
to hiring capable employees who are reflective of the communities we serve
and our performance management program are just some of the initiatives of
which we are proud. These efforts help us develop and nurture the talented
workforce we have at the Law Society. By
creating a workplace environment that is progressive, fair and principled,
we demonstrate the value we place on our employees and those they serve:
the people of Ontario and the legal profession." Maclean's
publishes the list of Canada's top 100 employers every year in its
magazine. The book, Canada's Top 100 Employers, is published by Mediacorp
Canada Inc. and is one of the country's best-selling business books. More
than 7,500 employers were invited to apply this year, reduced from an
initial list of over 55,000 employers that were reviewed by the magazine's
editorial team. According
to Richard Yerema, author of Canada's Top 100 Employers, and now in his
sixth year overseeing the competition, "the common thread that runs
through the finalists is that each is an industry leader...the employers
chosen this year stand out from others in their industry in attracting and
retaining quality employees." "Being
publicly recognized as an industry leader is an important validation
of our efforts here at the Law Society to reform our operations and
recognizes the important role our employees have in making this reform a
success," says Heins. "Garnering this recognition since 2003 is
really an achievement - one that is shared with the whole team. I would
like to thank everyone at the Law Society for continuing to make our
organization an employer of choice." In
considering each employer's application, Yerema and his team reviewed
seven key areas: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social;
(3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off;
(5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; and (7) Training
& Skills Development. The
Law Society of Upper Canada is the regulatory body for Ontario's more than
36,000 lawyers. Its mandate is to govern the legal profession in the
public interest by ensuring that the people of Ontario are served by
lawyers who meet high standards of learning, competence and professional
conduct, and upholding the independence, integrity and honour of the legal
profession; for the purpose of advancing the cause of justice and the rule
of law. For
