 Karygiannis appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development

Ottawa, ON – Prime Minister Paul Martin today appointed The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, P.C., M.P., (Scarborough-Agincourt), as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development. 

“I believe it is important to engage Canadians in developing strategies to meet the challenges they face to further secure Canada’s prosperity in the 21st Century,” said Mr. Karygiannis.

Human Resources and Skills Development Canada helps Canadians find information on jobs, careers and financial matters.  It also provides details on topics such as birth and adoption; disability; education and returning to school; unemployment; and, retirement.

“The Department of Human Resources and Skills Development, through its programs, helps empower Canadians to improve their quality of life,” said Mr. Karygiannis. “It provides Canadians with the tools they need to succeed in their work places and in their communities.”

Mr. Karygiannis was first elected Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt in 1988 and was re-elected for a fifth consecutive term in 2004.  He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport in 2003 and served in that post until 2005.
