Toronto launches new city-wide publication
Toronto
Mayor David Miller and City Manager Joe Pennachetti launched a new
city-wide publication today that will inform residents of the
City*s
many programs and services. Our Toronto will be delivered to
every
household in Toronto and will be published regularly. Our Toronto
replaces
three city-wide publications - Waste Watch, Water Watch and
City
Routes.
*I
have long-felt that the City needed a publication such as Our
Toronto,*
said Mayor David Miller. *This gives us another
opportunity
for a direct dialogue with Torontonians. Our goal is to make
it
easier for residents to understand how the City works, how to access
services
and programs, to learn about the issues and decisions City
Council
is making, and how to get involved.*
The
articles in the first issue of Our Toronto include information
about
Live Green Toronto, Transit City, the Waterfront re-development,
the
Mayor*s Tower Renewal project, the Prosperity Agenda and more. It
also
includes information specific to seniors and youth, and a handy
clip
and save page with phone numbers for City services. The front page
of
Our Toronto features a photograph of a Kinder Art class at the Matty
Eckler
Community Centre.
In
addition to printing and distributing Our Toronto to every household
in
the city, the publication is available on the City*s website
(www.toronto.ca/ourtoronto)
in English and French as well as the top
10
languages spoken in Toronto. Those languages are Chinese, Tamil,
Italian,
Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Urdu, Russian, Farsi and Korean.
Our
Toronto is also available in English in HTML and audio format, and
Braille
is available upon request.
Our
Toronto is an environmentally-friendly publication. It is printed
on
100 per cent recycled paper using vegetable inks and conforms to the
standards
of the Forest Stewardship Council.
Toronto
is Canada*s largest city and sixth largest government, and
home
to a diverse population of about 2.6 million people. It is the
economic
engine of Canada and one of the greenest and most creative
cities
in North America. In the past three years, Toronto has won
numerous
awards for quality, innovation and efficiency in delivering
public
services. Toronto*s government is dedicated to prosperity,
opportunity
and liveability for all its residents.
