Budget
a disappointment - Karygiannis
OTTAWA
– The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for
Scarborough-Agincourt, expressed his disappointment in Budget 2011 which
was delivered yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Jim Flaherty.
“This
Budget is just smoke and mirrors. It appears to do things for
people, but it fails to deliver.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “The
increase in the Guaranteed Income Supplement sounds good at $600.00 a
year, but not so good at a $1.64 per day. That won’t even buy a
large coffee at Tim Hortons.”
Budget
2011 does not mention the cost of the Conservative government’s core
spending priorities – new mega-prisons and untendered stealth fighter
jets, while running a record deficit of over $56 billion.
“Harper
and Flaherty are spending more on prisons, fighter jets and advertizing
than they are on students, seniors and crime prevention.” Mr.
Karygiannis stated. “The Budget is all about big toys for big
boys. It does not deal with the daily reality facing Canadian
families.”
