the University of Indianapolis
and its Athens CampusThe
University of Indianapolis, Athens Campus (UIA), located
at the foot of the Acropolis, is the only wholly owned branch campus of a
US university operating in Greece. The
University offers 32 undergraduate programs and 9 graduate programs in
Athens. The
University of Indianapolis, Athens Campus is accredited by the North
Central Association of Schools and Colleges, and is also a founding member
of the Association of American Colleges in Greece (AACG). Introduction The
AHEPA National Educational Foundation and the University of Indianapolis,
Athens Campus have joined forces to offer an unforgettable experience to
young people. The Journey to Greece program, which is fully supervised by AHEPA chaperones, has been designed to immerse young students in a wonderful learning experience celebrating Greek society and culture. The AHEPA Journey to Greece ProgramEligibility
Students
must be a minimum age of 17 and in their last year
of high school or within their first two years of college. Duration
The
Journey to Greece will run for a duration of one month
starting July 20 and ending August 20, 2006. Courses The
Journey is a study tour and all students will take the
core course: Modern
Greek Language, Society & Culture They
then choose one of the following courses: •
Greek Art, Architecture and Archaeology •
Olympics - the Origins These
classes will not only be an unforgettable learning experience
but will also provide students with six transferable
university credits. Academic credit is transferred
to a student’s home institution by an official transcript
issued by the University of Indianapolis. Courses
will incorporate visits to the archaeological sites,
museums and the Foundation of the Hellenic World exhibition
in Athens. Students
will also benefit from use of the University Library,
Computer lab, including internet access, and the magnificent
UIA Cultural Center located in the midst of
the ancient ruins of Athens. The
University will arrange meetings with dignitaries in
Athens and invite speakers to further enhance the learning
experience. Students
will also be given the opportunity to take part
in the ‘Plant Your Roots in Greece’ reforestation project. Accommodation Students
attending the program will be housed very close
to the University in the Plaka area of Athens. AHEPA
chaperones and University staff will be on hand to
ensure the students’ welfare. Catering Lunch
is provided every weekday and all meals are
provided on excursions. Students make their own
arrangements for breakfast and dinner or the University
can make arrangements as required at additional
cost. Excursions Excursions,
designed with learning in mind as much as having
fun, form an integral part of the program. Guided by
scholars, students will immerse themselves in the lives
of the ancient Greeks and will fill their minds with art,
politics, culture and mythology that defined Greece. AHEPA

Campus The
University of Indianapolis Cultural Center Students
who have family in Greece may wish to spend time
with them during the extended weekend spanning August
12-16. They may do so and special arrangements will be
made for their classes. This
