Canada Day
Statement by
the Honourable Jim Karygiannis,
Member of
Parliament, Scarborough-Agincourt
Today, we
celebrate Canada Day – Canada’s 143rd Birthday.
Canadians from across the land and overseas, will join together in
July 1st festivities.
Whether they
gather on Signal Hill, overlooking St. John’s harbour, for the pre-dawn
flag raising ceremony; witness the noontime 21 gun salute and fly past on
Parliament Hill; march in parades; attend concerts and BBQs; watch lavish
fireworks; are sworn in as Canadian citizens at special sessions of
Citizenship Court; or, celebrate Canada Day abroad - July 1st is an
important day for all Canadians.
Canada Day
is an opportunity to re-discover our shared heritage, recall our
successes, and, more importantly, to look to the future.
Our future is built on the confidence we derive from having made
Canada a truly open, welcoming and free country. Based
on the legacy of our forefathers, Canada stands as a symbol of justice,
progress and inclusion.
Canada Day
is a time to remember our collective values – respecting our neighbours,
accepting our differences, celebrating our rich diversity and embracing
our heritage.
We also
remember the brave men and women who are serving in Afghanistan and other
conflict zones, upholding Canadian values around the world.
Please
celebrate a safe and happy Canada Day with your friends, family and
neighbours.
HAPPY CANADA
DAY!
