Leading Women’s Hellenic Organization Elects
Grand President
Goals for
the Year Include Strengthening Education, Civic Responsibility in the
Community
WASHINGTON
(July 20, 2007)—The Daughters of Penelope (DOP),
a preeminent
international women’s organization, elected Karen Stamatiades,
Atlanta, Grand President for the 2007-08 administrative year.
Elections were held July 14 at the 85th Annual AHEPA
Family Supreme Convention in Denver.
“I am
humbled by the honor of being elected Grand President of such a dynamic
organization by my peers,” said Stamatiades, who is a member of Menelaos
Chapter No.53, Atlanta. “I
look forward to the challenge of leading the Daughters of Penelope as we
approach our eightieth year and I am committed to strengthening the core
elements of our mission, especially civic responsibility and education,
for the betterment of the community.”
Stamatiades,
a 31-year member of the Daughters of Penelope, has served all major
positions at various levels within the organization, including Chapter
President, District Governor, and Grand Vice-President.
Stamatiades
is a graduate of Hollins University, Roanoke, Va. In the community, she is
an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation,
Atlanta; served as PTA president and on the County PTA Council, and has
volunteered for Hospice Atlanta. She was married to the late John C.
Stamatiades and the mother of two daughters, Becky and Connie, and a new
son-in-law, Scott.

Constantine, Vernon Hills, Ill.; Grand Governor, Zone I Anna-Helene
Panagakos, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Grand Governor Zone II Nicky Stamoulis,
Seminole, Fla.; Grand Governor Zone III Helen Santire, Houston; Grand
Governor Zone IV Lois Kotzambasis, Tucson, Ariz.; and Grand Advisor, Maids
of Athena Joanne Saltas, Murray, Utah.
“We are
fortunate to have an experienced Grand Lodge to support our goals,” said
Stamatiades. “I am excited
about the wealth of knowledge, drive and determination that the officers
of the Grand Lodge possess and bring to our association.”
