Province Welcomes Report on Postsecondary Education Government committed to quality, accessible and affordable systemTORONTO, Feb. 7 /CNW/ - Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Mary Anne Chambers today commended former premier Bob Rae and his advisory panel members for their work in undertaking a comprehensive review of Ontario's postsecondary education system. "Our government is committed to ensuring our students have access to a high-quality, affordable postsecondary education, and a system that is sustainable for future generations," Chambers said. "Our government initiated this review because we know that higher education is essential to Ontario's success." Mr. Rae and the members of the advisory panel were appointed by the Ontario government in 2004 to review the province's postsecondary education system. "The panel has presented us with a set of far-reaching and thought-provoking recommendations for a new framework for postsecondary education in this province," Chambers said. "We will review these recommendations thoughtfully and thoroughly and with due regard for the province's fiscal situation. We will continue to work with our partners, including the federal government, as we determine how best to move forward." The review included consultations across the province with students and their parents, university and college partners and members of the private and public sectors. "Our greatest competitive advantage is our people," Chambers said. "A strong, healthy and sustainable postsecondary education system is a key part of our government's plan to ensure prosperity for all Ontarians."
