Karygiannis celebrated 20 years in the House
of Commons
TORONTO -
Last evening, the Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for
Scarborough-Agincourt, celebrated the 20th Anniversary of his election to
the House of Commons with over 700 invited guests.
"It has
been my privilege to represent my neighbours in Scarborough-Agincourt for
the past twenty years." said Mr. Karygiannis.
"The Class of '88 is a special group of people.
Unfortunately, very few of them are still in the House."
Mr.
Karygiannis was first elected in the General Election on November 21,
1988. Mr. Karygiannis
defeated incumbent Conservative Paul McCrossan.
"Each
one of my seven elections has presented its own unique challenges."
Mr. Karygiannis commented. "Without you, the volunteers who knocked on doors, put
up signs, made phone calls, did drops and, of course, donated money, I
would not have been able to meet those challenges.
Therefore, I want to say - Thank you!
Tonight is as much a celebration of your efforts as it is
mine."
Mr.
Karygiannis is married to Toula and they have five daughters.
"The
life of a politician is not an easy one, but it is hardest one's family.
I could not have done this without the support and love of my
marvellous wife, Toula. She
has supported me throughout this journey.
Our wonderful daughters have grown up watching me go out the door
to weekend functions and off to Ottawa.
My parents taught me to believe in this beautiful country and to
stand up for what I believe." Mr. Karygiannis stated.
"To my family, I say 'Thank you for your love and support.
I cherish it more than I can ever say.'"
