Dear
Dr.
:
I
am appealing to the medical professionals in Scarborough to donate their
medical expertise and time to the flood distressed people of Pakistan.
I am putting together a team of medical doctors to accompany me to the
affected areas of Pakistan in the beginning of September.
The
U.N. humanitarian operations spokesman Maurizio Giuliano has said that
“If we do not respond soon enough to the urgent needs of the population,
if we do not provide life-saving assistance as soon as is necessary, there
may be a second wave of death caused by diseases and food shortages."
The
floods, a result of the torrential rains which began on July 22, 2010,
have washed out roads; destroyed homes and businesses; killed over 1,600
people; and, affected over 13.8 million people, approximately 6 million of
whom are children. It is estimated that 4 million homes have been
destroyed. I am asking Canadians to do what they do best - help
those who are in need. UNICEF estimates that 2.7 million children are in
immediate need of life-saving assistance.
Please
contact my office if you are interested in accompanying me on this trip. I
can be reached at 416-321-5454 or by email at jim@karygiannismp.com
Regards,
Jim
