DAY 2: STILL NO ANSWERS FROM
MCGUINTY LIBERALS
John Tory asks simple questions about the deficit and farmers, still no answers
(Queen’s Park) – New Opposition Leader John Tory today asked two straightforward questions to the McGuinty Liberals on behalf of the people of Ontario and once again received no answers.
Tory asked the Finance Minister: “Since the Premier was unable to answer this simple question yesterday, I’ll pose it to you. As the Minister responsible, what is your best estimate of the deficit for this year as of today?”
For a second day in a row, the McGuinty Liberals refused to answer as to the size of their ballooning deficit.
“Two days before the start of the new fiscal year, the man in charge of the books of this province can’t or won’t give this House a straight answer about the state of Ontario’s books,” Tory said during Question Period. “Do you not believe that taxpayers are owed an answer to this very straightforward question?”
Tory also asked the Minister of Agriculture why Ontario was excluded from top-level discussions that took place on March 7, 2005 about agriculture between the Prime Minister and the Premiers of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. “Farming officials we spoke with are concerned that your government isn’t talking to the federal government at this critical time for farmers in Ontario.”
